our roots

Here you can see Annabelle, the key component of what is today known as Spice Dunes.
She doesn’t take herself too seriously, but she does have a serious passion for very good chai.
She first discovered the delights of sticky chai in Melbourne, and quickly developed a fond affinity with its tasty warmth. She then spent time in India where this chai romance bloomed to full flower. Enraptured by the days of sitting street-side amongst the hustle and bustle and noise of India, sipping chai, meeting locals and watching cows and people amble on by.
After being back in NZ for some time and struggling to find any chai being served locally that was as good as she knew it could be, she decided to start this little venture with the aim of helping to spread the love of chai to Kiwis far and wide.

You’re welcome. ;)

Note: Our chai recipe is not traditional and does not claim to be, if you want to experience true chai culture you will need to go to India, or drink chai made by an Indian person :)
